Welcome to Stonehunt, a site for those who are looking for their ancestors. Like all websites, this one is ongoing with cemetery headstones and other genealogical information from various places being added as I travel and research my own family ancestry.
This is a very large endeavor and most cemeteries are quite sizeable, but hopefully it will be worth the time to those of you who visit and discover an ancestor. I have discovered many stones are worn by time and elements, for those, I hope to have paper and a pencil so I can do a stone “rubbing” which can then be scanned in and accompany the photo of the headstone itself.
There isn’t rhyme or reason to my travels, I go where the urge pulls me and this usually leads me to some very interesting places (not all cemeteries).
I do have other genealogy information from visiting libraries in various areas that I’ll be putting out here for those who might have relatives in the same area. If I’m in a library, I take a photo of the book and page with the information I’m interested in, this helps me to keep all my documents electronic. I’ll try to post approximate dates when I’m planning on being in a specific location looking for a specific item. If you need me to look something up for you, just drop me an email at research@stonehunt.net and I’ll be happy to include your request with my own.
The information from this site will always remain free to the general public, and there will be no charge to anyone who asks for pictures or documents I currently have, or will attain in conjunction with my own endeavors. I like being outside exploring and sharing my discoveries makes the journey that much richer.
Lastly, I hope you will visit often and make requests for pictures of headstones of your family members. If you are interested in a photo and are having issues downloading, please drop me a note and I can email it to you.
Happy Stonehunting!
